The most machinable metal is the one which will permit the fastest removal of the greatest amount of material per grind (without reshapening the tool) with a satisfactory finish. In general, this implies the speed with which metal can be cut, but it also includes such factors as good finish and long tool life. Machinability is a broad term covering the relative ease of machining or the satisfaction with which a material is cut by sharp tools in various operations.
